Further, Georgia Southern University provides all the opportunities of a major university with a small campus feel – the Department has ~50 graduate students and 46 graduate faculty, providing our students with a high level of personal attention. Interested students are encouraged to visit the faculty page (, explore the faculty profiles and reach out to potential advisors during the application process. With two campuses and a broad scope of research topics, the opportunities are limitless! Accepted graduate students are usually provided with a graduate assistantship and assigned to roles as TAs for nonmajors and some intro-level majors biology courses, as well as provided with a tuition waiver. The assistantships (listed above) provide a stipend for the fall and spring semesters. Students can obtain additional summer stipends, with limited funding available through the Department, in addition to other internal sources (i.e., Institute for Coastal Plain Science) and external sources via grant-funded research.
