A fully funded graduate position (M.S. or Ph.D.) is available at the Coastal Conservation and Restoration Ecology Lab ( the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies ( with Dr. Jennifer Pollack and Dr. Kim Withers to lead research on the topic of restoration of cyanobacterial mats in wind tidal flat ecosystems. The position is available for a Summer or Fall 2023 start. This project will involve: 1) developing and testing methods for stabilizing and restoring elevation in the field, 2) evaluating methods for growing cyanobacterial mats in mesocosms in the laboratory/greenhouse, and 3) combining the best methods for stabilizing and restoring elevation and growing cyanobacterial mats in field experiments. The student will join a hard-working team that is focused on providing science to support resource management and conservation efforts and improve sustainability of coastal ecosystems. This work will be based in south Texas estuaries. Students may choose to apply through the Marine Biology ( or Coastal and Marine System Science ( graduate programs at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Strong candidates will have experience working independently in challenging conditions, managing field sampling operations, collecting and analyzing data, and communicating with diverse audiences. - Strong background in ecology, marine science, or related field (bachelor’s or master’s degree) - Excellent communication skills (written and oral) - Strong quantitative skills (e.g. MS Office, R, SAS, GIS) - Experience conducting field and laboratory research - Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a research team - Experience and interest in public outreach and informal science education
