We seek an M.S. student, beginning in January 2021, to use modeling techniques (e.g., stock/recruitment models, machine learning) to evaluate the potential effects of climate change on Lake Erie walleye recruitment and subsequent management, support and participate in structured decision-making processes, and conduct related quantitative fisheries research. This project will incorporate environmental factors and management actions related to potential changes in walleye recruitment with a changing climate. The student will work directly with Dr. Kelly Robinson at the QFC, collaborate with academic and agency biologists, managers, and stakeholders to gather and analyze relevant data, and present results to the relevant management agencies and committees. The Quantitative Fisheries Center has a strong reputation for developing relationships with relevant stakeholders for the research and the management of fisheries resources. B.S. in fisheries, environmental science, or a related field. Interest in fish ecology / population dynamics and natural resources management problems. Strongest applicants will have high GPA / GRE scores, a record of peer-reviewed publications, strong networking and social skills, and interest / experience in working with managers and stakeholders.
