SEASONAL JOB: Native Plant Restoration Technician Preferred Dates of Employment: Approx. 6 months from May 8 – October 27, 2023, with flexibility. Location: Based in Teton County, Wyoming with some overnight travel throughout the state. Pay: $25-30/hour based on qualifications. Preferred position is 35 hours per week with flexibility. Includes 35 hours, or one week, of paid leave. Position does not include benefits or housing. Northern Rockies Conservation Cooperative (NRCC) in partnership with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is seeking a Native Plant Restoration Technician to join our dynamic team. Teton County, Wyoming- in the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem- is home to some of the most intact and undisturbed lands in the country, with abundant wildlife, clean air, and expansive vistas; yet a variety disturbances such as wildfire and climate change threaten the ecosystems of Wyoming and the West. We seek a native plant restoration technician to join us in finding innovative solutions to these threats. The restoration technician will assist with projects focused on the response of native plant communities to climate change and wildfire, the seasonal timing of ecological events - phenology, development of innovative seed technologies and invasive species management. The successful candidate will assist NRCC and TNC scientists with designing, installing and monitoring field experiments; assist with data collection, entry, management and reporting; work with partners to determine best practices of restoration; and help lead volunteer citizen science events. Some overnight travel for field work and community events in Cody and Lander, Wyoming will be required. Preferred Knowledge and Experience: • Field experience conducting research activities in sagebrush ecosystems, and knowledge of common plant species especially grasses and wildflowers. • Experience hiking and working in rugged terrain, bear country, and remote settings. Preferred experience with wilderness first aid, GPS navigation, and carrying a heavy day pack. • Experience working with plants in an outdoor, lab or greenhouse setting. • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment. • Demonstrated organizational skills. • Experience with detailed data entry and data management. • Identification of plants using diagnostic tools such as dichotomous keys and field guides. • Ability to follow safety protocols for using small machinery, hand tools, and power tools. • Ability to work effectively on a small team. • Interest and ability to work with volunteers, school groups, and partners in the field. • Demonstrated ability to safely travel on primitive roads and trails. • Multi-language skills (especially Spanish) and cross-cultural experience is an asset. • Ethic of teamwork, communication, collaboration, time management and accountability.
