Under the supervision of the Real Estate Manager, the Natural Resources Analyst performs functions related to: land management, reservoir system management, and providing general assistance to the Real Estate Manager on a variety of land use issues. This position entails a significant amount of year-round field work as well as on-call coverage. Incumbents are considered Critical Personnel in terms of being required to complete certain responsibilities during some extreme weather events. Job Responsibilities: · Contribute to risk management of hazardous trees owned by RWA by performing field inspections and requesting action by Field Operations or hiring outside contractors · Coordinate all aspects of RWA’s deer management program, including DPH reports and permits · Assist the Real Estate Manager with all functions related to RWA property including, but not limited to: o Field check, mark, and maintain RWA property and easement line boundaries o Document encroachments on RWA property and easements o Perform research in municipal and RWA land records to ascertain information regarding ownership, easements, and boundary locations o Maintain a working knowledge of RWA’s Land Use Plan and land records in the RWA’s vault · Manage RWA’s hydrologic data including: o Manage all aspects of RWA’s Flood ALERT System including 24x7 response to alarms, performing data quality checks on ALERT data, coordinating semi-annual hardware maintenance and calibration by outside contractors, maintaining field hardware in working order, managing FCC licenses, maintaining and otherwise managing Flood ALERT software, invoking emergency actions as needed o Manage surface raw water sources including maintaining appropriate levels, providng direction to change reservoir and diversion valves, and maintaining a database of valve changes o Collect piezometer and weir data o Manage hydrologic data including rainfall, lake levels, weir levels, completing annual reports of lake levels, complete weekly raw water reports to CTDPH, submitting monthly raw water storage and rainfall data to selected RWA employees o Participate in dam inspections and supply hydrologic data · Prepare reports as necessary to communicate work activities · Perform responsibilities in accordance with RWA’s safety procedures · Support other departments and divisions within the RWA · Other duties as necessary to accomplish the strategic initiatives, mission, vision and values of the RWA
Qualifications
Qualifications: · Bachelors degree required. Those holding a bachelors degree in environmental studies, natural resources, and biological sciences will be given a preference over those holding other bachelors degrees. Experience in the job responsibilities noted above may be counted towards years of education beyond the associates degree level · Five (5) years of technical experience in natural resources management · Arborist experience required · Map reading experience preferred · GIS experience preferred · GPS experience preferred · Natural resources experience preferred · Research of land records/title searches experience preferred · Physical fitness as required to perform field work · Knowledge of plants preferred
