- Agency: City of Mentor, Parks & Recreation Department Address: 8500 Civic Center Blvd. Mentor, OH 44060 Job Category: Seasonal Position Website: http://cityofmentor.com/work/employment/ Base Salary: $13.00/hour Start Date: April 27th, 2023 End Date: Winter 2023 and/or completion of 840 hours The City of Mentor is seeking a natural resource professional to assist the Natural Resources Division with a migratory bird banding project, invasive plant management, native tree plantings, and nuisance wildlife management. The ideal candidate will have experience in identifying and banding migratory birds, as well as knowledge of both native and invasive plant management. Use of brush cutters and handsaws will be utilized during habitat restoration projects. Other tasks include avian surveys, vegetation surveys, data recording and entry, and application of pesticides. The assistant will also be responsible for helping prepare and conduct programs. Experience with educating people of all ages is not necessary but is preferred.
- Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: Completed degree or currently enrolled student of wildlife management, natural resources, ecology, biology or a related field. Must be able to lift and carry at least 40 lbs. Must be able tolerate inclement temperatures and weather for long periods of time. Will be required to work some nights and some weekends both indoors and out. Experience using Microsoft Office, Excel, and Google Drive Ability to accurately collect and compile scientific data. Must have valid driver’s license and ability to drive large trucks Preferred Qualifications: Experience or desire to learn operation of four-wheel drive equipment and trailers. Knowledge of native and non-native herbaceous and woody plant species. Experience using or ability to learn use of chainsaws, brush cutters, handsaws, hand tools, and best practice techniques in the application of herbicides. Ability to identify, and band migratory and resident bird species.
