*SCA 2018 Conservation Internships Announced*
Interested in taking care of the land? Join the Student Conservation Association (SCA) as a Natural Resources Management intern in 2018! The SCA has already announced 170+ positions for 2018 and anticipate 1000 more -- both in Texas and throughout the rest of the country.
Expected Dates: August 6, 2018 to July 6, 2019
Partner Site: Houston Area, Texas Commission of Environmental Quality
The Houston Natural Resources Intern will:
-Conducts prairie and riparian habitat restoration within parks.
-Works in the Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD) greenhouse to propagate plants for habitat restoration.
-Coordinates community cleanup and conservation service events.
-Performs trash cleanup of riparian areas.
-Conducts invasive species removal using mechanical and/or chemical methods.
-Performs technical data collection, research, analysis, evaluations, inspections, or surveys to determine the impact on natural resources.
-Prepares, assembles, and distributes educational materials and conducts educational presentations and training programs at community centers.
-Participates in community outreach events to educate citizens about the value of native habitat.
-Maintains, calibrates, and operates technical equipment.
-Assists in field studies and in making technical evaluations.
-Participates in online and hands-on training provided by various organizations.
-Performs related work as assigned.
*This position does not provide housing so candidates must be local or have the ability to identify their own housing in the Houston area.
