The Naturalist Educator position supports Utah Conservation Corp’s mission by training the participant in the field of environmental education, giving them hands-on experience teaching and developing educational curricula, and provides an introduction to the world of environmental non-profits.
Start Date: Monday, August 28th
Work closely with the Director of Education to provide teaching opportunities and interact with the public to further the mission of Stokes Nature Center.
Lead SNC’s school programs for grades K-5. Classes are typically 1.5 – 2 hours in length.
Teach an assortment of environmental education topics to grades K-4 at the Bear River Charter School and to home school students.
Work with the Director of Education to update and develop environmental education curriculum in accordance with Utah state core standards.
Assist with organizing, promoting, and leading scout programs, naturalist walks/lectures/hikes and community educational events. These are typically offered on evenings and weekends.
Assist with development of educational programming geared towards promoting the Logan Canyon Children’s Forest.
Provide additional support for our Summer Camp program, may include: leading summer camp, assisting in camp curriculum planning & development, and ordering & collecting camp supplies.
SNC offers summer camps that are from half-day programs for 4-7 year olds and multi-day to week-long camps for ages 7+. Camps start in June and run through the second week of August.
SNC will be hiring additional camp staff for the summer. Camp sizes are typically 12 kids. Some are held at SNC, but most take place elsewhere in the canyon.
Occasionally assist with community outreach events and informational/education booths at different festivals.
This is a full-time AmeriCorps appointment that requires the member to complete 1700 hours of service over the course of approximately one year. This means that UCC members will generally work 40 hours per week, depending on the season and program needs. Schedule will vary week to week and applicants must be able to work evenings and Saturdays.

Allen & Alice Stokes Nature Center has maintained excellence in nature education for two decades. We offer programs at our center in Logan Canyon, our property in Nibley, Cache Valley schools, and at various outdoor locations in the surrounding valley and mountains.
Our ideal candidate will have experience teaching inside and outside the classroom, and is comfortable developing curriculum. The Naturalist Educator needs to be an organized, collaborative, independent worker who is excited about SNC’s mission and will be a positive ambassador for environmental education in the local community.
