NATURALIST OVERVIEW: Green Meadows Naturalists are fun, professional and dedicated to teaching and learning in an exceptional program where we host students and teachers visiting from the California Central Valley. Naturalists take the lead in role modeling, Green Meadows curriculum and teaching classes aligned with the California State Standards. Subjects taught range from stream ecology, snow science, forest ecology, Giant Sequoia ecology, astronomy, night prowl, to a day in Yosemite Valley or Glacier Point. Other duties include leading high school cabin leaders through a leadership course, mentoring intern naturalists and each other, curriculum development, managing site logistics and creating fun musical and education evening programs. PROGRAM: Every student a Success! That is the overall mission of the Merced County Office of Education, and it happens here at Green Meadows Outdoor School. Programs are generally four or five day in length serving mainly sixth grade students. Our students are representative of California’s rich diversity with a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. The curriculum covers a wide range of science and social study standards. We have a strong commitment to creating the finest environmental and outdoor education in the southern Yosemite area! We are a COSA certified program. This position is considered part time because it is for 165 days per year. Most work weeks are 40 hours per week. SALARY: Currently $19.18 per hour; overtime paid over 8 hours; normally we work 160 days per school year. HOUSING and OTHER BENEFITS: Housing is provided through school year. You live with other Naturalist staff. The houses are on the edge of campus so you can walk to work without living in the middle of work! Meals are provided during program.
