- Description
- The New Mexico Department of Game is Fish (NMDGF) is hiring a field technician to work on a variety of projects throughout New Mexico. The field tech will work with NMDGF wildlife biologists to assist them with field work and periodic data entry. Projects may include checking/moving remote cameras for cougar studies, surveys for bighorn sheep, quail, and songbirds, assisting on ptarmigan transplants, capturing dusky grouse, working on the wolf recovery program, vegetation monitoring, and other similar projects. The field tech will camp at each location where there are unlikely to be facilities; therefore they must have extensive camping experience and sufficient equipment. Some jobs will require long days hiking in challenging terrain, and others will involve a lot of driving. Conditions will range from cold, wet, and steep high elevation mountains, to hot, dry, and flat deserts. The field tech will often work alone in remote areas and must be comfortable in such conditions. Long field days and an irregular schedule should be anticipated while working an average of 5-6 days per week. Salary is $155 per day and a vehicle and gasoline will be provided. The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology or closely related field, a minimum of 2 seasons of field experience, and experience operating a 4-wheel drive pickup truck. Please send a cover letter, resume, and 3 references to Ms. Elise Goldstein, Elise.Goldstein@dgf.nm.gov, to apply. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, and anticipated start date is May 1, 2023.
