Description
Conservation Begins Here. The Student Conservation Association (SCA), Americas #1 conservation service organization seeks qualified applicants to lead, educate, and inspire students for the programs. Training Dates: June 5-9 Site TBD and June 12-17 Site TBD (mandatory paid (paid mandatory training Program Dates: 7/10/2023-8/18/2023 Location (City and State): Asbury, NJ. West Orange, NJ Primary Responsibilities: As Crew Leader, you will be working to guide and inspire a team of 4-6 High School students. The crew will be working on various conservation projects in natural spaces in Asbury, NJ and West Orange, NJ. As a Crew Leader you would be responsible for picking the crew members up in an SCA vehicle at an agreed upon location and transporting them to and from their worksites. You will guide conservation projects and environmental education (EE) activities for the duration of this position. Specifically, the Crew Leader will: Act as a Crew Supervisor, by facilitating teamwork, managing field-based tasks, and guiding crew dynamics Serve as an Advisor, by training members in technical conservation work skills, mentoring personal and professional development, and teaching environmental stewardship Act as a Project Manager, by communicating with agency park partners, ensuring successful and timely completion of work projects, and upholding a positive representation of SCA Perform tasks as a Program Administrator, by organizing logistics, completing documentation, managing a budget, and communicating with SCA staff
Qualifications
Qualifications: Experience working with youth or young adults [15-19), teaching or environmental education a plus Experience with conservation work skills or related skills preferred i.e., trail maintenance, trail construction, habitat restoration, chainsaw, carpentry, landscaping, and gardening Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements and most occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more Current First Aid and CPR and/or WFA/WFR certification required by the start of training Must be able to attend Crew Leader training: [dates here] Must be a minimum of 21 years of age Must have ability to legally work in the US Must have a valid drivers license for 3+ years and MVR that meets SCA standards Must be able to meet SCAs criminal background check standards [Add housing requirements here, i.e., Must have personal housing arrangements in program city Leader Benefits and Compensation: $820 weekly stipend $TBD travel stipend Describe housing offered, including the location of housing and whether field base meals are included, and additional benefits i.e., Wi-Fi. $800/wk. for Orientation and Work Skills Training from 6/5-6/9 and 6/12-6/17 Leadership1957 SCA is an EOE dedicated to workforce diversity.
