The AmeriCorps Field Specialist (ages 18-25 preferred) provides training, education and leadership to AmeriCorps Crew Members and Leaders, ensuring projects are completed in an efficient, safe and consistent manner. The Field Specialist will assist with natural and cultural resource management activities and work closely with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to plan, prepare, implement and monitor natural resource projects.

-- Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Thursday, 10 hrs/day
-- Stipend: $1990/mo
-- Education award: $5815 upon successful completion of term
-- Coordinate field crews and assist on technical projects as needed. When not on a crew-based project, complete projects independently or with other DNR staff.
-- Coordinate between project hosts and crews. Maintain equipment, conduct repairs and inventory.
-- Provide educational, technical and safety training for district corpsmembers.
-- Ensure AmeriCorps field members are familiar with safety practices and precautions. Develop emergency response plans for each project and conduct safety site inspections and shop safety audits.
-- Working knowledge of conservation project management from a variety of disciplines.
-- Experience with hand and power tools, tree felling and chainsaw operations, construction and mechanical skills, prescribed burning and wildland firefighting.
-- Previous experience in a leadership role, including coordinating and implementing trainings.
-- Effective communication skills.
-- Red card certification (S-130/S-190, IS-100 & IS-700)
-- Current First Aid/CPR certificate.
-- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUIs in the past five years).
-- Flexible schedule to accommodate week-long out-of-town projects and emergency response.
-- Ability to perform the Essential Service Functions 40 hours per week, including long (10 hr) days of physically demanding outdoor work.
-- Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
