We seek an enthusiastic student to work on cutting edge research regarding Northern Bobwhite hunting and harvest management. The research will feature landscape-scale manipulative experiments, and novel remote sensing approaches (i.e., unmanned aerial vehicles).
The research will take place on a private ranch in central Florida that provides an opportunity to facilitate adaptive management and develop other real-world skills. The student will spend part of the year on the ranch and the rest on campus. The student will be co-advised by Dr. James A. Martin (Associate Professor, UGA) and Dr. Theron Terhune (Gamebird Director, Tall Timbers Research Station); and will collaborate with numerous other scientists and managers.
BS degree conferred by January 1, 2021 in wildlife management, ecology, or a related discipline.
Students without a MS will be considered, but only in rare cases. The candidate must be willing to learn quantitative techniques (e.g., movement analyses) and computer languages suitable for
model development (e.g., R, Python, etc.). The student should also be personable and be a team player. Furthermore, the student must be willing to work remotely.
