Seeking one highly motivated individual to assist in data collection for a northern bobwhite translocation project in the New Jersey Pine Barrens from April to September 2018. Start and end dates are flexible. Primary responsibilities include: radio telemetry of bobwhite 4-7 times per week (50%), conducting vegetation surveys (35%), locating and monitoring bobwhite nests (10%), and other duties as assigned (5%). Field work is conducted within remote forests in southern Burlington Co., NJ. Field housing will be provided.
Qualified applicants should have telemetry experience (however, we are willing to teach), be able to navigate using GPS and maps, and be comfortable driving a four-wheel-drive vehicle on unpaved roads. Applicants must be comfortable hiking through pine forests (occasionally with 20+ lbs. of equipment) and dealing with adverse conditions including heat and biting insects. Working on weekends is common, especially during peak nesting. Technician must work well independently. Applicants with previous telemetry and/or wildlife experience are preferred, a strong work ethic is a must. Applicant must also have a valid driver’s license.
