The Cooperative Wildlife Research Lab at Southern Illinois University is hiring experienced research technicians (2) for a project investigating the influences of raptor abundance and landscape characteristics on bobwhite population and spatial ecology. The field season will begin January 17th and last through the month of April. Fieldwork will include trapping and tracking bobwhites using radio telemetry as well as recording raptor observations. Fieldwork will be conducted at Burning Star State Fish and Wildlife Management Area, located approximately 20 miles north of Carbondale, Illinois. This position is a great opportunity to gain trapping and radio telemetry experience. Technicians must be able to endure through cold and harsh field conditions. Carbondale provides many outdoor recreation opportunities, with several state parks, wildlife areas, and national forests located nearby for recreational activities outside of field work. Salary is $1,800/month. Housing is not included.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have previous fieldwork experience, and have or be working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related field. Preferred applicants will have field experience in grassland systems, especially experience working with bobwhites previously. Preference will also be given to those with prior telemetry experience or formal experience with raptor identification.
