Position: Noxious Weed Technician Type of Position: Seasonal Temporary, variable schedule Conditions: 40-60 hours per week (Time-and-a-half overtime rewarded) Salary: $17-$23 D.O.E. Closing Date: Open Until Filled Start Date: 05/01/2022 Description of Position A Noxious Weed Technician must be able to identify noxious weed species, native plant species and have a working knowledge of various tree species. The technician must mix and apply herbicides in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and be able to operate and maintain herbicide application equipment. They will be required to keep comprehensive records of work performed within herbicide application areas. A technician will exercise proper use of all equipment in a safe and professional manner and perform other duties as needed.
Job Requirements Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have an interest in noxious weed control and range management. One year of experience in noxious weed control is strongly recommended. Ideal applicants will possess or be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Ecology, Forestry, Environmental Conservation, or a related field. Applicants must possess a valid Montana Driver’s License with clean driving record and must have reliable transportation to and from Bonner, MT. Applicants will be required to have an understanding of: plant and tree identification, navigational tools (Garmin/Trimble GPS) that support weed management and re-vegetation efforts, operation and maintenance of equipment, and basic operation of tools. Traveling to and working in remote places across western Montana will be required. Ability to: lift 50+ pounds; withstand a wide range of outdoor conditions including walking long distances, often across steep and difficult terrain, absorb and retain information quickly, exhibit exceptional communication skills, interact in a professional manner, work independently or with a team, competently maneuver on/off-road vehicles including trucks/ATVs/UTVs, maintain attention to detail, and be punctual.
