- Description
- Nevada Division of Forestry: The Nevada Division of Forestry manages all forestry, nursery, endangered plant species, and watershed resource activities on certain public and private lands. The Division also provides fire protection of structural and natural resources through fire suppression and prevention programs and other emergency services. Main functional areas of the Division include Administration, Resource Management, Fire Management, the Conservation Camp Program, Air Operations, Support Services, Fiscal, and Personnel. Nursery Specialist III Description: The Nursery Specialist III is responsible for managing the nursery production operations at the Washoe State Tree Nursery as well as providing oversight and coordination for production at the Las Vegas State Tree Nursery and other restoration nurseries co-located with NDF conservation camp facilities. The position is located the Washoe State Tree Nursery in Washoe Valley and requires limited in-state travel to work with staff at other facilities that are producing conservation plants. Out-of-state travel to attend work group meetings and conferences can occur on a limited basis. The Nursery Specialist III position is supervised by the Resource Program Manager. The position is funded by revenue generated from the sale of conservation plants and grants that support state tree nursery operations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to developing and tracking the annual nursery budget, establishing and fulfilling contracts, facilities maintenance coordination, policy review and procedure development, providing technical assistance to customers, marketing to and networking with customers, tracking and setting production, finances, staff schedules, documenting and reporting sales expenditures, and revenue. - Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science, horticulture, botany, biology, or closely related field and two years of journey level nursery experience, one year of which included supervision of a nursery/greenhouse operation; OR two years of experience as a Nursery Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
