- Conservation Begins Here. The Student Conservation Association (SCA), Americas #1 conservation service organization seeks qualified applicants to lead, educate, and inspire students for NYC Community programs. Training Dates: (paid mandatory training) June 5-9 (Harrisonburg VA) and June 13-17 (Bronx NY) (mandatory paid training) Program Dates: 7/10/2023-8/18/2023 Location (City and State): New York City Primary Responsibilities: As Crew Leader, you will be working to guide and inspire a team of 10 High School students. The crew will be working on various conservation projects in parks located in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan. As a Crew Leader you would be responsible for picking the crew members up in an SCA vehicle at an agreed upon location and transporting them to and from their worksites. You will guide conservation projects and environmental education (EE) activities for the duration of this position. Specifically, the Crew Leader will: Act as a Crew Supervisor, by facilitating teamwork, managing field-based tasks, and guiding crew dynamics Serve as an Advisor, by training members in technical conservation work skills, mentoring personal and professional development, and teaching environmental stewardship Act as a Project Manager, by communicating with agency park partners, ensuring successful and timely completion of work projects, and upholding a positive representation of SCA Perform tasks as a Program Administrator, by organizing logistics, completing documentation, managing a budget, and communicating with SCA staff
- Qualifications
- Leader Qualifications: Experience working with youth or young adults [Enter preferred age range here], teaching or environmental education a plus Experience with conservation work skills or related skills preferred i.e., trail maintenance, trail construction, habitat restoration, chainsaw, carpentry, landscaping, and gardening Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more Current First Aid and CPR and/or WFA/WFR certification required by the start of training Must be able to attend Crew Leader training: 6/5-6/9 (Harrisonburg, VA) 6/13-6/17 (Work skills Training/Bronx, NY) Must be a minimum of 21 years of age Must have the ability to legally work in the US Must have a valid drivers license for 3+ years and MVR that meets SCA standards Leader Benefits and Compensation: $820/week Paid Training $800/Week SCA is an EOE dedicated to workforce diversity.
