ORGANIZATION The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at CSU. CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DOD) and other public lands. POSITION One Seasonal Outdoor Recreation Technician position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands. This position is located at Avon Park Air Force Range, Florida. Primary responsibilities will be to assist in administration of the public hunting and recreation program. RESPONSIBILITIES Check incoming recreation users for compliance with regulations and maintain use records. Assure that users have proper permits and vehicle passes to use recreational areas. Post information on recreational status on the installation. Update information at three check stations. Collect and record biological data from harvested game animals. Sell and process forms for outdoor recreation permits. Provide safety briefing and inform applicants of regulations. Assist contractors and volunteers in maintenance of permit sales office, porches, and parking areas. Maintain inventory of office supplies. Bury animal entrails. Clean and fuel vehicles. This is a part time seasonal position, but work hours are variable, beginning as early as 4:30 a.m. and ending as late as midnight. Work days will include weekends and holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S. employment eligibility. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. High school diploma; related work experience preferred. Experience in the collection of biological data from game animals. Experience with interaction with the public in an official capacity. Experience with general office administrative procedures such as filing, computer data entry, and telephone etiquette. Experience in cash management. Good written and oral communication skills. Must have a valid driver’s license. BACKGROUND CHECK Colorado State University is committed to providing a safe and productive learning and living community. This position is not to exceed nine months, ideally beginning in September and ending in May. After a three month break continuation of position is dependent on the receipt of funding from the sponsor for Recreation Management at Avon Park Air Force Range.
