Overstory Crew Members will help carry out research on the effects of silvicultural treatments on the ecology of managed forests as part of the Hardwood Ecosystem Experiment (HEE) near Bloomington, IN. The primary duty for these positions will be to conduct overstory tree surveys including measurement and identification of trees, saplings, and seedlings as well as shrubs. Overstory crew members may also be asked to assist with our mast and prescribed fire projects at certain times throughout the field season.
Required • Field or classroom experience conducting forest inventories • Strong tree and shrub identification skills • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record • Willingness to work in extreme conditions, including traversing rugged terrain through dense, thorny shrubs Preferred • Experience with tree and shrub identification in the Midwest • Experience with hand-held GPS units, maps, and compasses To apply, send your resume, cover letter, and a list of references by email or mail to: Charlotte Owings HEE Project Coordinator 715 West State Street West Lafayette, IN 47907 freemac@purdue.edu
