Description
The Parasites and Plastic Ecology Lab at Frostburg State University is taking applicant inquiries to fill a M.S. Assistant position in the Department of Biology - frostburg.edu/academics/colleges-and-departments/department-of-biology/program-requirements.php. The successful applicant will enroll in a M.S. program for Wildlife/Fisheries Biology or Applied Ecology & Conservation Biology. This funded position entails the oversight of specimen collection, maintenance/culture, and deposition of invertebrates, fishes, and bird hosts. A major component of the research project includes trophic behavioral experiments as they relate to consumed plastics and parasitic infections. Additional opportunities for plastics chemistry and the inclusion of new hosts (seabirds and/or passerines) or ecological systems are also likely. Compensation includes a teaching assistantship that provides a stipend and a tuition waiver with potential for initial funded field and laboratory training prior to official enrollment in the graduate program. How to Apply: Interested applicants should send an email to Dr. Kate Sheehan (KLSheehan@frostburg.edu) explaining your qualifications and interests in the field as they relate to parasitology and/or plastic pollution ecology, along with your long-term professional goals. Provide the numeric and percentile GRE score in the email body. Additionally, attach a CV outlining your achievements and a copy of your unofficial transcripts. Interviews for promising candidates will occur in early-April. Applications sent directly to the Admissions office without prior vetting will not be reviewed. Underrepresented groups in the fields of ecology, conservation, and natural resources are particularly encouraged to apply and all qualified individuals will be considered. Applications received in full as instructed above by April 01, 2021 will be guaranteed full consideration
Qualifications
B.S. in Biology or related discipline by 06/01/2021. Enthusiasm and motivation to perform independent and team research in a laboratory setting.
