Idaho Conservation Corps - AmeriCorps 480 Hour Individual Placement U.S. Forest Service Payette National Forest Council Ranger District - Council, Idaho Position Title: Engineering Technician AmeriCorps Member - 480 HR Position Summary: The Council Ranger District, Payette National Forest is recruiting for two 480 Hour Engineering Technician AmeriCorps Members from May through August 2023. The incumbent will be paired with a permanent Forest Service Engineer to inspect construction projects, roads, and other structures on National Forest lands. This position will typically work four ten-hour days per week (Monday through Thursday). Duties and Responsibilities: The member will shadow engineering employees as they perform their duties. These duties will include inspecting construction projects, surveying roads, inspecting timber sale contracts, inspecting road and trail bridges, and performing sign maintenance. Other tasks may include filing and other light office work. The hire can expect moderately strenuous activity including walking in rough and uneven terrain and utilizing hand tools for road maintenance. Time will be spent: 70%-monitoring/evaluating road/facility conditions, 10%-surveying AOP/bridge sites, 10%-planting native species on disturbed construction sites, 10%-data entry. Required Qualifications: Willingness to work as part of a small team Current driver's license. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs Ability to work outdoors in remote settings and inclement weather on uneven ground Desired Qualifications: Experience reading maps and attention to detail Previous experience using GPS units Duty/Housing Location: Duties are performed out of the Council Ranger District Council, Idaho. Housing is provided in bunkhouses with a common kitchen and shared bedrooms located in Council. Terms of Employment: Each AmeriCorps member will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting May through August 2023. The member must complete a minimum of 480 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours. Program Benefits: 480 Hour - $5,400 living allowance, prorated on a pay period (monthly) basis $1,718.25 education award upon completion of the 480 hours of service. The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
