Idaho Conservation Corps - AmeriCorps 480 Hour Individual Placement U.S. Forest Service Payette National Forest Supervisor's Office - McCall, Idaho Position Title: Engineering Equipment Operator AmeriCorps Members - 480 HR Position Summary: The Council Ranger District, Payette National Forest is recruiting two 480 Hour Engineering Equipment Operator AmeriCorps Members from May through August 2023. The incumbent will be paired with a permanent Forest Service Engineering equipment operator to repair and maintain Forest Service roads and structures. This position will typically work four ten-hour days per week (Monday through Thurs). Duties and Responsibilities: The member will shadow Engineering Equipment Operators as they perform their duties. The duties (100%) for this position include driving forest service vehicles while pulling trailers, utilizing hand tools to clean ditches, clean culverts, and clear brush. Occasionally, time will also be spent operating equipment such as backhoes and brush cutters. Required Qualifications: Willingness to work as part of a small team Current driver's license with experience pulling trailers. Good verbal communication skills. Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs Ability to work outdoors in remote settings and inclement weather on uneven ground Desired Qualifications: Experience reading maps and attention to detail Previous experience running heavy equipment Duty/Housing Location: Duties are performed out of the Council, Idaho. Housing is provided in camp trailers located in or around McCall, Idaho. Terms of Employment: Each AmeriCorps member will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting May through August 2023. The member must complete a minimum of 480 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours. Program Benefits: 480 Hour - $5,400 living allowance, prorated on a pay period (monthly) basis $1,718.25 education award upon completion of the 480 hours of service. The incumbent will receive training in CPR/First Aid & defensive driving. The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
