- Idaho Conservation Corps - AmeriCorps 680 Hour Individual Placement U.S. Forest Service Payette National Forest Council and Weiser Ranger District Position Title: Recreation Trails Technician AmeriCorps Member - 680 Hour Position Summary: Payette National Forest, Council and Weiser Ranger Districts are recruiting one 680 Hour Trail Crew AmeriCorps Members beginning May through September 2023 (exact starting date is negotiable). This position will be part of the West Zone Trail Crew. The West Zone has a diverse Forested landscape stretching from Hells Canyon, along Hells Canyon Reservoir, to high mountain roadless areas on Cuddy and West Mountains. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties (100%) of this position include working as a crew member on a self-contained backpacking crew. Performs light and heavy maintenance on the District system trails including logout and tread repair. The District is made up of rugged mountains, densely forested, deep canyons with many wild rivers and high mountain lakes. Work will entail trail maintenance and construction projects across the Zone. Work may entail a significant amount of overnight camping. Required Qualifications: Previous backpacking, hiking and camping experience required. Perform strenuous physical work outdoors. Hike long distances carrying a heavy pack and tools. Current driver's license Ability to perform strenuous physical labor on an everyday basis Ability to work outdoors in remote settings and inclement weather on uneven ground Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs Willingness to learn and work as part of a team in an outdoor setting Strong work ethic and positive attitude Ability to safely use hand and power tools Desired Qualifications: Outdoor skills preferred. Previous backpacking experience a plus Willingness to work 10-hour days Interest in trail work and natural resources. Excited and committed to mentally and physically challenging days in an outdoor setting with others. Duty Location: Duties are performed out of the Brownlee Guard Station, approximately 20 miles from Cambridge, ID. Housing is provided and the work center is just under one hour drive from Weiser and Council, ID. Terms of Employment: One AmeriCorps member will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting May through September 2023. The member must complete a minimum of 680 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours. Program Benefits: A $7,650 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis and a $2,474.27 education award upon completion of the 680 hours of service. The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
