Description
We are seeking outstanding students to pursue PhD (1) and MSc (1) degrees in Wildlife Ecology, programs housed in the Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology (FWE) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Thesis research will involve using bioacoustics to monitor the response of populations of spotted owls, other focal species, and biological communities in rapidly changing California forests. The research will leverage acoustic data being collected at regional spatial scales (millions of acres) and likely involve additional survey work to be developed as part of the students’ program. The student will be co-advised by Dr. Zach Peery (http://peery.russell.wisc.edu) at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and Dr. Connor Wood (https://connormwood.com) at the K. Lisa Yang Center of Conservation Bioacoustics at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Funding is currently pending; if awarded, students will be funded primarily through Research Assistantships over the course of their programs.
