- Project: Innovative development, field verification, and refinement of multi-scale habitat suitability models to predict range-wide occurrence (presence/absence) of imperiled Candy Darter and Slender Chub. Responsibilities: Help compile existing data, develop predictive models, lead field surveys, and finalize the models to characterize detectability and range-wide distributions of Candy Darter and Slender Chub to inform their conservation. Conduct field-validation studies to relate Candy Darter and Slender Chub detection and occupancy to suites of biophysical features. Conduct data analyses, write reports, develop public presentations, and publish peer-reviewed papers related to these studies. Complete relevant coursework. Dissertation will be co-advised by Paul Angermeier and Emmanuel Frimpong and will involve significant collaboration with Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and other agencies.
- Qualifications
- Completed MS in fish/stream ecology, with landscape and conservation emphasis; working knowledge of habitat assessment and geospatial analysis; ability to work independently and in a team, and to publish research findings; strong writing, speaking, and statistical skills; highly motivated. Ready to start PhD work in January 2022.
