Description
PhD Research Assistantship to study soil ecology in agricultural systems in Alaska. Research topics may include soil thermal and hydrologic dynamics, biogeochemistry, plant - soil interactions, sensing, mapping, and more. The student will also join an inter-institutional cohort of students as members of the Deep Soil Ecotron (https://deepsoilecotron.org/) project and will gain research project management training and experience. The student will be stationed at a soil science research lab (PI: Caley Gasch) located at the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center in Palmer, AK and join the Natural Resources and Sustainability PhD program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The assistantship includes a stipend, tuition, fees, travel, and research expenses.
Qualifications
MS degree in soil or environmental science. The ideal candidate will have education and experience in both ecology and agricultural disciplines. Please send a letter of interest and CV to ckgasch@alaska.edu. Further instruction will be provided upon review of these initial documents.
