Description
The Cooperative Wildlife Research Laboratory, Southern Illinois University Carbondale is inviting applications for a PhD level Graduate Research Assistantship beginning 15 January 2023. Assistantships are on a 12-month basis; they pay $1,675/month and include a full tuition and fee waiver and support for research activities. One student is needed to assist in a long-term project addressing both applied and theoretical questions regarding the influence of grassland vegetation community structure and management on variation in wildlife interactions and community assemblages (quail, passerine, mammal, snake, and invertebrate) on Burning Star 5 State Wildlife Area in southern Illinois. Graduate studies will lead to a PhD degree in Zoology or Ecology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Qualifications
Competitive GPA and GRE scores are required. Competitive candidates will have completed a Bachelor’s and M.S. degree in Wildlife Ecology, Zoology, or a related field; however, exceptional candidates with a Bachelor of Science only will be considered. Demonstrated experience identifying grassland nesting birds and the ability to conduct rigorous fieldwork under extreme conditions is required. Previous experience or a desire to continue a career in avian ecology is desirable, but not essential.
