USACE Galveston District Operation Division:
Manages the Operations and Maintenance program for Navigation and
Flood Risk Management business lines located within Coastal Texas.
Coordinates with various navigation stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally sustainable navigation channels for the movement of commerce, national security and recreation.
Monitors and maintains over 1,000 miles of Federal navigation channels through the execution of maintenance dredging and other marine construction contracts; and operation of Federal navigation structures along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.
Makes determination on the constructability of non-Federal projects to ensure they do not interfere with Federal Operations and Maintenance.
Specifically within the Environmental Team:
Provides NEPA review, water and sediment testing, threatened and endangered species and migratory bird window management and other general environmental support to the O&M mission.
Manages ocean dumping sites as per MPRSA and local agency agreements.
Manages inland open water and confined placement sites per clean water act and other state laws and regulations.
For hire under this recent grad classification, must have graduated within 1 year.
Degree requirement: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
