This position’s focus will be on division properties of the Piedmont region of the state although some work entails going outside the region. This position focuses on the Resource Management Program’s stewardship work. Major areas of work include rare species protection, ecological restoration, fire management, and invasive species control. The job entails significant amounts of field work at the parks but also includes training of and providing scientific information to park staff, coordination with outside agencies and scientists. Natural resource biologists are expected to make appropriate resource management decisions in a wide variety of subjects guiding and implementing stewardship activities; collecting, maintaining and using data on the parks’ natural resources; assisting in the review and evaluation of proposed park construction projects; and coordinating with other agencies to minimize impacts to the parks from activities on adjacent lands. This position may supervise temporary employees and interns.
Bachelor's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
