We seek a highly-motivated individual to analyze secretive marsh bird monitoring data collected throughout New York State. The aim is to develop Marsh Bird Monitoring Program protocols for New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) that can detect changes in occupancy and abundance to be used in decision-making for conservation of these species in New York State. To advance survey design, the selected individual will work collaboratively with a team of faculty and NYS DEC staff. Those familiar with waterbird survey methodology, occupancy modeling for rare species, and application of autonomous recording units are encouraged to apply. Opportunities exist to assist with and teach courses depending on the selected individuals interests and expertise. Application deadline: Review of applicants begins immediately. Requirements: 1) PhD in wildlife ecology or related field, 2) necessary skills including proficiency with R-coding, GIS, data management techniques including knowledge of Microsoft Access, and modeling (preferably with experience in Bayesian techniques).
