We are seeking applications for one Postdoctoral Research Associate position as part of a large multi-institution project called the Modelscape Consortium. The overarching project objective is to develop and compete computational, statistical, and machine learning methods to create predictive and explanatory models for the life sciences. The position at the University of Nevada, Reno in Joanna Blaszczak’s Watershed and Aquatic Ecosystem Ecology lab will primarily focus on the development of predictive models of energy flux (i.e., ecosystem metabolism) and material transport in aquatic ecosystems.

The postdoctoral researcher will be primarily based at the University of Nevada Reno but will benefit from the opportunities to collaborate broadly with others on the project. Applicants who would like to work remotely will also be considered. The position allows for multiple professional development opportunities, including training in highly interdisciplinary science, collaborations across institutions, regular meetings with the entire consortium, mentorship toward academic and non-academic career development, and interactions with graduate and undergraduate students. The postdoctoral associate is expected to publish their findings in journals and work collaboratively with others across all three participating institutions.
The position is full-time for two years and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including insurance and retirement plan. Salary for this position is $53,000 (same across all postdocs). Travel to conferences will be supported. The start date is flexible, but preferably in the next 6 months.
Ph.D. in ecology, earth or environmental science, biology, hydrology, statistics, or a related field
- Record of publishing in peer-reviewed literature
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in investigating material and energy flux in aquatic ecosystems
- Keen interest in developing skills in mathematical or statistical modeling to extend conceptual thinking and research in life sciences
- Previous interdisciplinary and collaborative work
