- Description
- The Bowles Lab of Aquatic Geomicrobiology at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to join our interdisciplinary research team. We are looking for a curious and organized problem-solver to lead and participate in field and laboratory work centered around methane efflux from coastal off-shore sediments. The candidate will participate in multiple cruises in the Gulf of Mexico and be an integral part of a multiple institution NSF funded project. At LUMCON the postdoctoral associate will focus on microbial activity analysis and geochemical measurements. The successful applicant will work closely with the Roberts Lab at LUMCON on cruise preparation, sample collection, and analysis. Additionally, the postdoc will have the opportunity to work alongside our interdisciplinary team of researchers from Louisiana State University and University of Georgia with experience in radiochemistry, in situ microsensors, inorganic geochemistry, and reactive transport modeling. The postdoc will also have the opportunity to develop their own original research project(s) related to the project goals. This is a unique opportunity to join an interdisciplinary and collaborative research team to develop an independent research program. More details can be found at the MEFFLUX project website (https://www.bowleslab.com/mefflux.
- Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have experience with field and laboratory instruments. The ideal candidate will understand sediment microbial processes and we particularly welcome those with experience regarding the carbon and iron cycles to apply. Duration and Start Date: The position is supported by an extramural research grant. The position is available in early 2023. The initial appointment is for 1 year with possible additional support (up to 1.5 more years) dependent on performance.
