The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences seeks a creative and motivated ecophysiologist to join an established program designed to aid in the development of best management practices to conserve threatened and endangered bat populations. The selected candidate will develop a field-based monitoring program to quantify individual and population-level changes in bat health, stress, and condition with the aim of generating a mechanistic understanding of different forest management scenarios on bats. The post-doctoral researcher will be responsible for developing research questions, creating and documenting field protocols, generating data, and communicating the research to the broader scientific community by writing peer-reviewed manuscripts.
Applicants should have earned a PhD in biology or ecology by the start date. Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating an ability to use laboratory tools (e.g., molecular techniques, physiological assays) to quantify stress, health and/or disturbance in animals. Applicants must be proficient in statistical analyses in R and provide evidence of their ability to author peer-reviewed manuscripts. Preference will be given to applicants with experience collaborating as part of a team. Candidates should be critical and creative thinkers who generate new ideas and approaches. It is also important that candidates can work independently and remotely, with a high degree of motivation, a positive attitude, and the willingness to solve problems as they arise. Strong candidates will demonstrate their stellar written and oral communication abilities during the application process. The selected candidate must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
