- Description
- Title: Red Snapper Movement and Abundance Position Description: The Postdoctoral Associate will be supervised by Drs. Nathan Hostetter (USGS NC Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit) and Krishna Pacifici (NC State University) and work with a team of researchers at NC State University (Dr. Jeff Buckel), NOAA (Drs. Nate Bacheler and Kyle Shertzer), University of Florida (Dr. Will Patterson), and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (David Portnoy) to quantify movement and abundance of red snappers in US Atlantic waters. Specifically, the Postdoctoral Associate will 1) quantify Red Snapper movement using multiple data sources collected in NC and FL (e.g., acoustic telemetry, mark-recapture), 2) develop methods to estimate abundance by integrating count data (e.g., paired/trap video and Remotely Operated Vehicles) and movement data, and 3) work with collaborators to compare abundance estimates to complementary Close-Kin Mark-Recapture (CKMR) analyses and stock assessments. The postdoc will participate in all aspects of research activities, have opportunities to participate in field research, and flexibility to develop their own research ideas.
