The Dorn Aquatic Ecology lab at Florida International University (associated with the Institute of Environment) is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Associate position to join a collaborative effort examining the impacts of fish and aquatic fauna on nutrient cycling and SAV in wetlands. The project is a collaboration between researchers at FIU, Florida State University and the South Florida Water Management District. The position has funding for a minimum of a two-year term, with annual renewal contingent upon performance. The selected candidate is expected to be a key member of a large aquatic ecology lab at FIU and will lead the work on the project, working closely with biological technicians and student researchers. The selected candidate will be expected to continue a multi-year collaborative project, write annual reports and meet project deadlines, but will have flexibility to develop/design important components of experiments and take lead authorship on multiple manuscripts. The position will be located in North Miami, FL on the Biscayne Bay Campus of Florida International University and field work will occur in the Everglades and adjacent wetlands in southern Florida.
A Ph.D. in Fisheries, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field will be required at the time of employment.
The position is immediately available for a motivated and intellectually curious applicant with proven quantitative (R-code), problem-solving, collaborative, and communication (written and oral) skills and experiences.
The candidate should be interested in working on fish ecology and/or the effects of consumers in ecosystems.
Experience with freshwater herbivory, boat driving and/or electrofishing is desirable, but not required.
We are especially interested in applicants who share our commitment to equity and high-quality education of students from historically underserved and marginalized communities. We encourage candidates from under-represented groups to apply.
Interested applicants should send a single pdf with a CV, cover letter and the names and contact information for three references to Dr. Nathan Dorn (firstname.lastname@example.org). Review of applications will begin on 10/25/2021 and the position will remain open until filled. The position is considered a visiting faculty line and includes the full range of university benefits.
