Description
Locations: Work with Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC). Location will be flexible due to the nature of the work. Type: Seasonal, full-time. Part-time options may be an option in special cases. Start Date: Negotiable, approximately May 15- August 4, 2023. The intern will work with MDAC Nuisance Wildlife Specialists to assist them in the following duties: assess sites for active wild hog damage, set up wild hog traps, monitor trapping activities, troubleshoot issues associated with wild hog traps, and break down traps. This position will require extensive daytime travel across the state.
Qualifications
Enrolled in or recently completed wildlife, agriculture, forestry, or another natural resource-related course of study. Interest in and knowledge of wildlife management, animal science, experience with hunting, and some technologies are preferred. Preference will be given to students with previous experience in wild hog trapping, outreach education, damage assessment, and having a strong academic background. Applicants must be physically capable of outdoor work during hot, humid, summer conditions; able to follow directions; work independently; respect private property and rules; and maintain a positive attitude. Intern must possess a valid driver’s license.
