The Program Specialist I will be responsible for development and planning of the Rock Eagle 4-H Garden program. This includes the development of a new 2 acre garden site consisting of fruit trees, year round vegetable garden, and herb gardens. Task will consist of planning crops, plot rotations, harvesting, record keeping, managing garden staff, and working with dining hall manager to ensure crop selection will fit with meals offered to guest. This position will also oversee the history component within the Rock Eagle 4-H Environmental Education program. This includes a small history garden, 2 saddlebag homes, pole barn, chickens, and goats. The program specialist will develop educational programs related to the Tompkins Inn. Program Specialist I will give direct instructional support to participants in the Environmental Education and Summer Camping Programs, as well as adult/youth conference groups attending Rock Eagle 4-H Center. Additional responsibilities will include training of staff, curriculum development, maintaining teaching spaces, and class materials. During the summer months the Program Specialist I will assist with summer camping program. This person will be required to become American Red Cross trainer certified for CPRO and 1st aid training. Weekend and evening work is required.
Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a Bachelor’s degree. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Crop/ Plant Science, Botany, History, Education, Natural Science, Environmental Education, Biology, Outdoor Education, or related fields.
