Description
The Department of Fish & Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation, is recruiting for a Program Technician stationed in Galena from August 1 through January 31. This position will serve as the initial public contact for the hunting and trapping public at the Galena office. This person will be responsible for answering questions about hunting and trapping regulations, hunting opportunities, hunter education, and wildlife viewing in the region and statewide. The office also provides services such as sealing hides and furs, harvest reporting, sample collection and other services required by regulation. This position will assisting with logistical support to management biologists in operation of the hunter checkstation and conducting aerial wildlife surveys. The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to performing the following tasks and training other technicians to perform the following tasks: Providing customer service to diverse groups, including disseminating local and statewide hunting and trapping regulations. Issue licenses, permits, and harvest tickets. Processing harvest reports and ensuring accuracy in data collection. Entering harvest and survey data and completing data summaries for the area wildlife biologists, and Experience or education with electronic databases including Excel, Access, and ArcGIS.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Two years of office clerical experience or technical experience related to fish, wildlife or habitat resources; OR One year of experience providing advanced clerical services based on established procedures, precedents, and policies in administrative, informative, and/or programmatic functions. This experience includes work such as an Office Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere. Substitution: Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).
