This is an entry level position for the native plant nursery with the understanding that you will be expected to support the Nursery Manager in the production and maintenance of native plants. This position is based out of Harrisonburg VA, with work throughout the Shenandoah Valley and Piedmont regions. Duties 1. Assist the nursery managers in the production and maintenance of nursery stock by watering, weeding, pruning, seeding, fertilizing, and pesticide/herbicide applications 2. Monitor and inspect the health of all nursery plants to identify moisture needs, nutrient deficiencies, disease, and other potential issues 3. Assist with sales, including but not limited to pulling orders, maintaining retail displays, recording accurate inventory and production data 4. Perform work requiring the use of hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning shears, hedge trimmers, and other landscape maintenance equipment as needed 5. Remove weeds, non-native exotics, and other undesirable plant material; prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears or pruners 6. General housekeeping of TNG Holding Lot, Nursery, trucks, and trailers 7. Work safely adhering to uniform and PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) guidelines 8. Ensure company equipment is operated and maintained properly, including but not limited to initiating any action needed to remedy malfunctioning or unsafe equipment or report any issues to supervisor/lead 9. Understand and comply with all company policies with regular attendance and punctual for scheduled shift
Desired Experience, Knowledge, and Interest - Education background including an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in native plant botany/horticulture is preferred, but not required. - Strong desire to actively promote native biodiversity through habitat restoration on the landscape and habitat restoration scale. - Experience or interest in providing native plant education to general public and those interested in learning more about biodiversity and native plants Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. ● WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions (rain, sun, heat, cold, mud, dusty, etc.) ● Able to lift at least 40 pounds, regularly ● Stand, walk, lift, kneel, and bend entire shift (8-10 hours) Send in resumes and/or cover letters to
