Description
We seek an individual to: •Sample reservoirs by boat for greenhouse gases, nutrients, phytoplankton, and zooplankton. Transport samples from field sites to the research lab, •Conduct field work in a wide range of weather conditions at local and regional sites; overnight sampling likely, •Assist in the set-up, takedown, and maintenance of experiments, both in the field and lab, •Oversee preparation of samples for chemical analyses, including filtering, drying, and weighing samples, •Analyze water samples, including dissolved organic carbon, total nitrogen, and chlorophyll •Use gas chromatography to analyze greenhouse gas samples (CO2, CH4, N2O), •Assist in set-up, operation, and arranging for maintenance of laboratory and field equipment, •Maintain lab research databases and laboratory records, including interfacing with collaborators, •Perform data entry and summarize data using computer spreadsheets and technical software (e.g., R, ArcGIS), •Contribute data findings for inclusion in reports or articles, •Ensure the proper ordering of inventory and supplies and maintain orderliness of research lab, •Ensure all laboratory protocols and procedures adhere to disease control, radiation, and chemical safety requirements, •Coordinate undergraduate student researchers and ensure they have taken proper lab safety training courses, •Manage equipment schedules in the lab, oversee research protocols, and •Help maintain orderliness of research lab spaces and field sites.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field of science or technology AND two years’ experience in a field applicable to the assignment, at least one year must include lead or supervisory experience. A Masters’ degree may be substituted for one year of required experience; OR equivalent education/experience. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years of experience working in an ecology or biogeochemistry laboratory or equivalent education/experience. Five (5) five years of experience as a research assistant working in a biogeochemistry laboratory. Two (2) years of experience as a lab manager including ordering supplies and supervising others. Authorship on a least two (2) peer-reviewed journal articles. Proficiency using Excel, ArcMap, Sigmaplot, and Adobe Illustrator.
