As a key contributor to the Learning and Development Team, you will strategize, implement, and maintain the comprehensive WDFW safety program across Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, Pacific, Pierce and Thurston counties. This is an opportunity, To travel throughout the northwest to facilities and worksites to provide or facilitate safety trainings and orientations. With your experience, You will develop and implement safety policies, procedures, disaster preparedness, emergency response, and accident prevention plans. We are seeking a candidate, Who models WDFW values: Accountability, Service, Professionalism, Integrity, Respect, and Empathy (ASPIRE). Duties Some of what our Safety Officer 3 will enjoy doing, Collaborate with management, supervisors, and employees to execute the WDFW Accident Prevention Program and identify and address specific safety initiatives: Lead and support safety committees and meetings. Conduct Job Hazard and Job Task Analysis. Provide direction for personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and use. This will include conducting respirator fit testing. Develop project and site-specific safety standard operating procedures (SOP). Lead chemical safety and security programs including inventory, storage, and response. Conduct confined space assessments including atmospheric testing and entry permits. Coordinate with agency safety professionals and the Learning and Development Team, to implement and maintain all aspects of the WDFW Enterprise Safety Program: Contribute and maintain the agency Safety Manual and Accident Prevention Program. Develop and provide enterprise safety information, education, and communications. Plan and execute emergency management drills. Participate in After Action Reviews of critical incidents and develop and implement correction action plans. Facilitate, provide, and schedule regional and statewide safety trainings: Maintain certifications to provide instruction of designated safety courses and maintain dependability in the instruction of all courses. Work intently with the Training Coordinator to deliver, facilitate, schedule, and audit trainings. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work Setting, including hazards: 30% of duties are performed in an office setting. 70% of duties are in the field/traveling. This may include touring facilities and work areas including hatcheries, wildlife areas, and construction sites. Will work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, rain, or snow. Drive vehicles, work in off-road vehicles, vessels, watercraft, aircraft, rough terrain, riverbanks, slippery slopes, and other surfaces in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations. Schedule: Core agency hours are 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Monday – Friday. May be required to work occasional weekends and evenings, depending on events or workload. Travel Requirements: Frequent travel is required throughout Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, and Thurston Counties. Travel across the state for safety functions are as needed. Tools and Equipment: Computer, cell phone and safety program industrial hygiene sampling equipment. Customer Interactions: Will interact and provide service to internal and external customers and stakeholders.
- Qualifications
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety studies, natural science, business or public administration, education or allied field. AND Four (4) years of professional experience in occupational safety and health programs. Please Note: Closely related qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis. A Master’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety studies, natural science, business or public administration, education or allied field may be substituted for two (2) years of the above professional work experience requirement. Certifications/Licenses: Valid Driver’s License. Knowledge of: Principles and practices of employee safety and health program administration including: Organizational development. Safety and health education and training. Regulatory compliance. Accident investigation. Self-inspection. Record keeping. Publicity. Safety committee operation. Industrial hygiene testing. Other safety and health services common to office settings and industrial workplaces. Ability to: Interpret L&I and OSHA regulations, safety rules, programs, and policies. Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: First Aid, CPR and AED Certification to be completed within six (6) months of employment and maintained at all times of employment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety studies, business or public administration, engineering or allied field. Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician, or a Safety Trained Supervisor (STS).
