One full-time (40-hour/wk) position is immediately available for a highly motivated applicant with excellent quantitative, problem-solving, and communication (written and oral) skills, experience working in rivers. Duties include assisting in freshwater mussel surveys, compiling and managing a GIS-compatible database, writing reports, and assisting in other field and lab activities with internal and external collaborators.
A B.S. or M.S. degree in Biology or other science field is required at the time of employment. Applicants should be enthusiastic about field work and also be interested in lab work. Experience collecting and identifying freshwater mussels, handling kayak and motorboat, and with scuba diving is preferred. Must be able to swim, carry about 50 pounds, walk over uneven terrain, comfortable working long hours in the field, and able to operate large 4WD vehicles. Other preferred skills include: Experience with data entry and data management and basic GIS, excellent time management skills, familiarity with basic statistical analyses, able to work well as a member of a large research team and alone with minimal supervision after training for the job.
