- Description
- This position is part of a cohort of 20 climate change-focused internships that will receive specialized training and opportunities to engage with other members of the cohort. The USDA Southeast Climate Hub is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Field research sites are within one to three hours from the office. Some overnight travel may be required when working at the more remote sites. Hotel and food allowances will be provided by USDA when traveling to the remote research sites. Applicants must be comfortable working outside in hot and humid conditions, and on sites that may have spiders, ticks, chiggers, and snakes. Safety is always our first priority when working in the office and field. Personal protective equipment (e.g., snake chaps, safety glasses, hard hats, gloves) and safety training will be provided. Responsibilities: Assist with the establishment of field plots to quantity the impact of soil salinization in coastal forests; Assist with a project quantifying the benefits of best management practices on stream quality and quantity; Assist with a study to quantify down deadwood in forest stands;
