- Description
- Patuxent River Park, located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is hiring one (1) Research Assistant to co-lead the analysis and writing of a peer-reviewed publication on Sora (Porzana carolina) migration chronology, determined with radio telemetry from an existing dataset to be submitted to a scientific journal. The field-based research has been completed. All candidates must possess a minimum of a B.S. (M.S. preferred) in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Science, or a related field and have extensive education or research experience using R statistical analysis. The ideal candidate has previous experience with the Motus wildlife tracking network and related data analysis. Housing is not provided. Ad hoc telework is permitted. The primary focus of this position is to work on the data analysis and publication. This position does provide an excellent opportunity to network with researchers of wetland birds and raptors. Chances to participate in other ongoing projects such as Osprey banding, Wood duck, and Barn owl nest box monitoring may be available as time permits. This is the perfect opportunity to jump start a career and become a co-author on a peer-reviewed paper of original wetland research. This position will primarily work Tuesday-Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evening work may be required.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Wildlife Science, or related field, M.S. preferred Must possess excellent scientific and technical writing skills Must have R statistical analysis and programming skills, preferably related to Motus PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Motus wildlife tracking system experience Knowledge of Movebank Interest in ornithology Effective communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and Teams Ability to meet deadlines
