Numerous agencies coordinate efforts to monitor and limit the spread of invasive carps in the Tennessee and Cumberland river basins (TNCR). Although large expenditures are commonly made on data collection, the resources allocated to data management, analyses, and reporting are relatively small. This two-year position will develop an online or desktop application for submitting, sharing, and analyzing standardized monitoring data on invasive carps for collaborating agencies across the TNCR. The successful candidate will work closely and collaboratively with Drs. Steve Miranda (MS Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit), Mike Colvin (Dept Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture) and Corey Dunn (MS CFWRU), and representatives from TNCR-partnership agencies. There is 2 years of support for this position.
Minimum is undergraduate degree in relevant field, but a graduate degree is preferred. Experience developing desktop or online applications, especially within R and Shiny. The successful candidate will have excellent programming skills and experience organizing large datasets. Applicants are preferred with backgrounds in natural resources, and especially those who could perform summary analyses of fisheries data. Applicants should have strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate application and database development with partnership agencies. Telework may be an option for this position. To apply, please email with the subject line “TNCR job application” to Dr. Mike Colvin ( (1) cover letter describing experiential background and project interest; (2) a resume or cv; (3) email addresses and phone numbers for three professional references.
