Our Research Biologists work individually, as well as with a team of natural resource specialists, scientists and biometricians to:
Coordinate field-related work for both Pre-construction and Post-construction renewable work.
Conduct surveys for threatened and endangered species, including bats
Conduct field-related work including: avian use surveys (i.e., avian point count surveys), habitat assessments for rare species, bat mist-net surveys, acoustic monitoring set up and maintenance, standardized fatality searches (i.e., beneath wind turbines) to locate bird and bat fatalities, and scheduling and conducting bias trials for PCM projects.
Assist with the design and implementation of research projects
Conduct training for field technicians on relevant field protocols
Organize and review field data
Draft technical memos and scientific reports
Conduct other field work as needed and experience allows

The Research Biologist we are seeking has a great opportunity to help WEST take the next step in our growth as a full service environmental consulting firm. The successful candidate must be a self-starter who possesses:
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in the related field
USFWS Permit allowing handling of threatened and endangered bat species, including the Indiana and northern long-eared bat, or sufficient experience to allow applicant to apply for and receive a permit
Excellent written and oral communication skills, such as a history of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals or scientific reports
Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work well under time constraints and meet deliverable targets and deadlines
Demonstrated ability to work on biological field studies
Ability to pay close attention to detail and accurately report the scientific methods and results of field studies
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to follow instructions from managers and accept guidance and constructive criticism
Ability to effectively supervise others
Adherence to all health and safety processes and protocols
This position will require overnight travel
