The successful candidate will directly work in collaboration with scientists from University of Montana (USGS Montana Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit), Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), University of Wisconsin, Michigan State University, and USDA-APHIS National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC). The PI, Dr. Daniel Walsh, is a quantitative disease ecologist. The position will focus on coordinating with state wildlife management agencies to develop data sharing approaches and coordinated adaptive management strategies for chronic wasting disease (CWD) across state boundaries. The objective of this position is to coordinate scientists and managers across agencies to promote adaptive CWD management across state boundaries. Major duties would include coordination of partners and associated meetings, development of approaches for data sharing, standardization and management across jurisdictions, and development of regional CWD management approaches. The position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience working across different types of government (state and federal), coordinating applied scientists across these different settings, and building an extensive professional network of wildlife management and wildlife health professionals.
REQUIREMENTS 1) MSc. degree in a pertinent biological, physical, or data science field by start date of position. 2) Personable and ability to communicate clearly to diverse audiences. 3) Demonstrated competency in developing effective disease management strategies or and/or data governance or databases on information for informing management decisions. DESIRED ATTRIBUTES 1) Experience with using scientific data to inform disease management in wildlife. 2) Experience working with wildlife managers. 3) Experience in developing workflows for assimilating different types of data from multiple partners for use towards a unified objective(s). 4) Experience in structured decision-making and adaptive management.
