This position is responsible for laboratory and research functions within the Molecular Conservation Genetics Laboratory (MCGL) housed at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The function of this position is to provide research support from the MCGL to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Additional responsibilities include managing the day-to-day operations of the MCGL to ensure high levels of accuracy and integrity in the final research products. These duties include being up to date on contemporary molecular biology protocols, designing and implementing molecular research, analyzing genetic data, and providing reports of findings to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Candidate(s) will assist with all aspects of genetics/genomics fisheries research conducted at the Molecular Conservation Genetics Laboratory (MCGL) housed at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Job duties include field work, data collection, genetics/genomics sample lab processing, data analysis, and writing reports and publications.
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art genetics/genomics field and laboratory techniques, with emphasis on the genetics/genomics of fishes. Experience in genetics/genomics laboratory operations and maintenance. Knowledge of statistical analyses associated with genetics/genomics research. Knowledge and experience in scientific report writing, peer-reviewed publication, and presentations. Ability to communicate with the public on a frequent basis.
- Knowledge of fish identification, fisheries biology, and physiology. Experience maintaining large databases. Experience in coordinating multi-faceted fish genetics/genomics field and laboratory research projects. A M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Genetics/Genomics with emphasis on fisheries or related field is preferred, but not required.
This position may be hired in conjunction with the Research Scientist (Job ID 12551) position to combine for 40 hours per week and two LTE appointments. Candidates who are interested and minimally qualified for each job are encouraged to apply for both positions.
