The College of Agriculture and Life Science at Iowa State University is seeking applicants for a Research Scientist I position in the Natural Resource Ecology and Management Department to assess invasive carp reproduction and spread in the Upper Mississippi River. This position will provide technical support to research projects by assisting with the collection of fish in the field and processing samples in the laboratory. The successful candidate will develop methods for assessing where and when invasive carp reproduction is occurring in pools 14-16 of the Upper Mississippi River, conduct ichthyoplankton and zooplankton sampling in the field, and larval fish and zooplankton identification in the laboratory. Employees will train students on the appropriate use of field and laboratory equipment and will be responsible for data quality control in the field and the lab and database development and management. The successful candidate will also conduct data analysis and assist with writing technical reports and scientific manuscripts. The employee is expected to work closely with state and federal partners to fulfill data and research needs. The successful candidate will possess excellent organization skills, experience developing and managing databases, technical writing skills, interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. The candidate will be proficient in MS Office Suite. This position requires in-state travel that will include extended overnight stays during the field season. Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor, MS, or Ph.D. degree in Fisheries, Biology, or related field.
